The Story of the NBA’s Political Exile


Enes Kanter watched the Turkish coup play out from Fethullah Gülen’s house and shuttled there most weekends this past summer. While Turkey wants Gülen extradited, Kanter sees a messenger of peace. Now, he’s a political exile who’s found refuge in the NBA. Kanter may have also found something in New York he’s been without for almost a decade: a home.  “I consider myself American. I’m done with Turkey.”
